Schwerpunkt: HIV & Frauen, Schwangerschaft

Good evening, Dr Römer, I am a 37-year-old lady who is hiv positive. I would like to have at least one child and my doctor tells me that this is possible. But I haven't got a partner, so I can only do it through insemmination of donor sperms. I would like to know if there`s a clinic here in Germany that can help me. Thanks in advance for your care.

Dear „sheena“,

you are right: a pregnancy is possible if you are not suffering from advanced disease or if you are well treated.

I am no expert in the field of infertility counselling but as far as I am aware of there are several clinics which offer insemination with donor sperms, even to single mothers. Here in Northrhine-Westfalia you can find specialised fertility centers at every university clinic or in every big city. Please call the centers in your surroundings to find out if they are using this method and if they treat singles.

However, this treatment is not covered by medical insurance. Depending on the effort the costs could easily reach several thousand Euro. I am quite sure that you will find a clinic that will counsel you.

Best regards,
